Buying A Used Vehicle: The Paperwork Checklist

The documents to verify before money changes hands.

Verify the register first

Confirm the registration number, VIN and engine number on the vehicle match the registration certificate exactly. A mismatch stops a change of ownership dead.

Titleholder vs owner

If the vehicle is financed, the bank is the titleholder. A change of ownership cannot complete until the finance is settled and the bank releases the record.

After the sale

Notify change of ownership within the statutory period. The License Guys handle the full change-of-ownership process, including the roadworthy where one is required.
