Roadworthy Testing: What Is Actually Checked

Why it exists

A roadworthy certificate confirms a vehicle met minimum safety standards on the day of testing. It is required when a vehicle changes ownership, is re-registered, or returns to the road after being deregistered.

Common failure points

Worn tyres and uneven tread, misaligned or dim headlights, brake imbalance, cracked windscreens in the driver's line of sight, exhaust leaks, and worn suspension components.

Number plates that do not match the register, or that are damaged, also fail.
