NaTIS online bookings and renewals explained

Everything South African vehicle owners need to know about the official NaTIS eServices process — and what to do when the online route is unavailable.

What NaTIS online actually is

NaTIS — the National Traffic Information System — is the official government register of every vehicle, registration certificate and driving licence in South Africa. The eServices portal is the public front end: it lets you create a profile, confirm the details recorded against your vehicle and, depending on your province, book a licensing appointment or lodge a licence disc renewal.

It is not a courier service. NaTIS books your slot and records the transaction — the paperwork, verification and physical lodgement remain your responsibility.

Booking a NaTIS appointment step by step

  1. 1.Register a NaTIS eServices profile using your South African ID number and email address.
  2. 2.Verify your profile from the confirmation email before you attempt any booking.
  3. 3.Select the licensing centre, the service you need and an available slot.
  4. 4.Save the booking reference and prepare original documents plus copies.
  5. 5.Attend the appointment on time — late arrivals usually forfeit the slot.

Documents to have ready

  • South African ID or passport (original plus a copy)
  • Proof of address no older than three months
  • Vehicle registration certificate (RC1)
  • Renewal notice (MVL2) where one was issued
  • Signed NCO and ARV forms for a change of ownership
  • Roadworthy or police clearance certificate where applicable

When the online route falls short

Slots fill quickly, provinces differ, and a single missing document sends you back to the start. THE LICENSE GUYS SA handles the entire transaction on your behalf — renewals, ownership changes, registrations and clearances — with progress you can track in your own secure account instead of standing in a queue.

Frequently asked questions

What is NaTIS online used for?
The National Traffic Information System (NaTIS) is the official South African government system that holds vehicle registration, licensing and driver records. The online portal lets you register a profile, view your vehicle details and, in supported provinces, book a licensing appointment or renew a licence disc.
How do I book a NaTIS appointment online?
Create a NaTIS eServices profile with your ID number and a valid email address, verify the account, then choose the licensing centre, service type and an available date. You receive a reference number that must be presented at the centre together with your original documents.
Can I renew a licence disc online?
Online renewal is available in some provinces and through selected participating outlets. You still need a valid registration certificate, proof of address and payment. Where online renewal is unavailable, the renewal must be lodged at a licensing centre.
What documents do I need for a vehicle renewal or ownership change?
Typically your ID, proof of address no older than three months, the vehicle registration certificate (RC1), the renewal notice where applicable, and for ownership changes the signed NCO and ARV forms from both buyer and seller.
